Nuff said. If they want to quit make it hurt. I'd even go for a system that would give you a game or two as warning, but then each subsequent quit after that gets progressively more expensive in xp, or even ban you from playing for x amount of time.

I think thats abit too much...
There are some people who actually NEED to quit.

And even if it works fine, people will just close the tab and open again.

I definitely think that's unnecessary. The penalties as they are now are already enough to deter me from quitting even when it would be a good idea.

I don't think it can be too harsh. Quitters are far too common because there is no real penalty for doing it.

Take a simple increasing system where the penalty starts out with something like 10xp and it increases with each game quit. A factor of 5 would probably work well. That gives you 3 or 4 quits before things start to get painful. Anyone that quits more than that is a chronic quitter. Every 24 hours your "penalty level" decreases by 1.

As an example. Quit game 1 and you lose 10 xp. Quite game 2 and lose 50xp. Quit game 3 and you lose 250 xp. Quit a 4th game and your losing 1250 xp.

If someone is wracking up quitter penalties because of connection losses or emergencies then they shouldn't be playing until their situation is resolved because they are just being an annoyance to other players. I can't think of any rational explanation why someone would quit more than 1 or 2 times in a week that has any justification. I don't care how badly I'm playing or how badly I'm getting my ass handed to me, I don't quit. I've lost a lot of bonus xp because jerks quit in the last few rounds and end the game as a forfeit which does not award you the same level of points for a win.

Only times I've quit is either when I had a connection issue, where I would just come back later when the connection has settled down, or when I had an emergency where I had to quit (family came over, someone was hurt, etc) and I think that's happened like 3 times to me in 2 1/2 years of playing SSL1 and SSL2.

What penalty? It's 10 xp. That doesn't even phase a level 1 player

I agree...but sometimes people have to leave even if they don't wanna.

What I would think, to fix the problem, is to have a little ranking of the player...a Red Flag means they leave frequently. A White Flag could mean they're in the neutral at that current time, and Green could mean they're good and tend to not leave. The Flag(s) of the player(s) could be voted on a player by other players.

That wouldn't exactly be very helpful....then the quitters can never join games..

    How about this.

Every 3~5 level, you unlock Quit Key.
By spending one quit key, you can quit the current game.

Or just leave the quit thingy.
    10XP is enough.

Or 10. Then 20. Then 40. Then 80. Then 160. By the end of the month, it resets.

WELL...don't you think it's not exactly good when you're level 50? It'll just add up even when you leave like just once a month.

Baloney, no one has to leave that often and that constantly for any good reason. If they get called away for a class or dinner or whatever then that's not anything that they wouldn't have been aware of was going to happen. And since its a progressive penalty the first few times will not really impact their xp and be enough to get their attention.

Any kind of voting system would not work. What's to stop someone from just being a jerk and voting people they don't like or that beat them with bad ratings? And how many nubs are going to understand that system right away or player paying attention and catch that and kick them before play starts?

An automatic penalty that increases with severity will be self regulating.
