I plan on releasing terrain texture mods for ShellShock Live in the future.
I've isolated all the in-game textures, so it's just a matter of successfully editing them and using
    a program like
TexMod to insert the modified texture packets upon launching the game.

Your basic in-game terrain consists of four main textures:

The basic ground texture
The top of ground texture

The image backdrop

A particle overlay

It's not fully functional yet, but I'm trying to start off simple with an Elemental Theme:
(Visual prototype minus the particle overlay.)

Anyway, this is just a far-off project that I thought I'd share. Thanks.

Because kChamp is a jerk and only wants to work by himself. And ignores the community. That's pretty much why.

Mr Synikal and Awesume like this.

Why so much hate? If he didn't like the community there would already be micro transactions. Also he seems to be updating the game regularly, besides being a single developer is not a bad thing.. Look at Five Nights at Freddy's.

This is like the environmental maps idea that mario had a while ago. This is pretty much what I dream for Shellsh

ock Live to look like every night except I always forget about it when I wake up. But I know these dreams happen.

A battle on a beautiful grassfield with mountains in the background and a starry evening sky with (if you want lol) a ringed planet dominating it. Then the grass is destroyed by fires and radiation from the senseless tank battle.

A battle in the snowy, frozen hills, with a furious blizzard depending on the wind setting. (The extreme whiteness could make aiming a problem though..)

A battle in the desert. Bright blue sky and intense heat. The heat causes the landscape to shimmer and refract and create mirages in the background.

A battle on the sandy beach. You battle on the loose sand. Explosions cause lots of sand to unsettle and rush up into the air. You can see the ocean in the background and the horizon transitioning into the sky. An appropriate location to shoot seagulls in.

A battle on Mars because we messed up Earth already, let's mess up Mars!

etc etc... Maybe in 50 years the game will be like this.

In theory, we wouldn't even need Kyle for those visuals. As this thread is about.
(Although those theme-specific environmental effects you were talking about are outside of modding perimeters, except the snow as that can be done via particle overlay.)

Nah. Didn't really have the drive to make it fully fledged out and publishable. Just edited bits and pieces for myself, but it is doable. Maybe it'll inspire someone else. A unity asset extractor, photo editing software, and texture injection program is all you really need. Go forth, George. Go forth.
