Ruler Accusers (Noobs)

Discussion in 'General Game Talk' started by AshleyFoxy, Apr 7, 2016.

?

Should the game's Tutorial include a section about the Shot Tracer Game Setting?

  1. Yes, many new players do not realize this is a normal game setting that can be turned on and off.

  2. No, they already explain the item.

So in the past couple of days, i've played against some lower level people, some higher level. By almost every lower person i've been accused of using something called "Ruler" when they left shot tracer on in the game settings. To be honest, this is very annoying as it's kind of stupid to accuse someone of cheating when you have it on your side either. In all they just accuse you of taking advantage of a simple game mechanic that was left turned on. I am level 51 and have been playing Shellshock since the original on Flash and have never gotten so annoyed with noobs so uneducated on the game. Anyways, rant over, if you've had experiences with these people too, please comment your stories of your encounters.

While some people do use that, the people who hit direct on when they are lvl 3 are ruler users. The tracer only helps after you shot at least one. Also, rulers require high arc. When you see a player shoot a weapon like Creek upwards like that, you know they are a ruler user. However, I think it is true that people mistake the tracer and the ruler. If you legit hit someone on and they miss, you can just automatically fire and get more damage. Some shots are also based off of the tracer, adding or taking away some angles/power. However, if you've got an extremely low level hitting you away, more likely than not, you have a ruler user, rather than a tracer user. But if you have a lvl 30 shooting away, then it might be ruler or tracer.
    tl;dr: It's complicated bro.

Yeah, i know, it's not too hard to just calculate where to shoot after the first shot if you've noticed how much a single tick makes of a difference.

Ruler - Nooby tactic using external help that has recently become annoyingly common.
Tracer - Item to tell exact track of shot on current turn.
Shot tracking - Optional setting showing everything that went on with your previous shot
    These are 3 separate things.

I don't see why the game would have to explain what a shot tracer is. It's practically self-explanatory. Also, if people are accusing you of using a ruler then its their lose and should be ignored.

Hold up, why would you need a high arc for ruler? Couldn't you just use basic kinematics equations for this? Or do they literally use a ruler?

You don't really even need tracers all that much to aim as if you are using a ruler even though you're not.

For rulers, it's just generally shot at a high angle. Most battles, they shoot max power anywhere from 80 (100) to 89 (91). For most battles, that will cover their aiming needs. These numbers aren't exact, but they are close. It's especially obvious when you're close to them and shoot a Shot at 89 (91) at max power. That's really when you know you have a ruler-er (what a terrible nickname -.-) because they could have shot at a low power in a lower angle. I'll get some screenshots later and edit this to better show this.

Yeah, it's a small slip of paper with marks for where every shot lands at max power for any given angle. However, most of them shoot things like Blaze at insane angles, so they do little or no damage. Things like that help the more skillful person win. That's why you rarely lose against ruler users. Doesn't mean it isn't an inconvenience for people at their own level, though.

They are getting pretty creative, doing this for 45 angle and just adjusting power and marking there rulers that way.
