Someone posted this on reddit and got 600,000 views. Hopefully the game gets a few more players from this exposure. http://m.imgur.com/RNH5oRf
I don't think this is going to benefit the game at all. It's a glitch in the startup. If there is a glitch in the startup, aren't people going to question the inside of the game, too? If that's a glitch, how do they know that this game isn't just a complete fail? If anything, this will be more people not getting the game, not buying it. Not saying it isn't humorous, but I don't think this gives the game good popularity...
Have you ever heard of the saying "Bad Press is Good Press"? It still puts the game out there for people to figure out what it's about. Even when someone asked about the game, the OP on reddit did a pretty good job describing the game and there was even another comment that someone made who was surprised that there was an SSL after SSL2, so depending on how you take it, I'm pretty sure people know it's just a glitch (Because those things happen you know) and are just joking around.
I wasn't concerned about people knowing it was a glitch. It was pretty obvious it was. The problem was what they thought about the game overall. Seeing this glitch would make them worry that the interior of the game has bugs, too. I certainly would if I saw that. Also, I'm pretty sure almost anyone who saw the picture has little or no intention to join the community here and get the game. Seeing a screenshot doesn't ensure they'll come. Viewing a funny picture of TF2 doesn't mean you actually want to get the game. It's just funny, and that's the only way people will see it.
If people didn't buy a game because they saw a glitch on the internet, those people would have a crappy time not playing any games at all. It still puts the game out there whether ppl were gonna buy it not, and that's better than not showing the game at all.
Barely any differences so far according to the stats. I was expecting this. http://steamcharts.com/app/326460
For whatever reason, not that its a bad thing, but its odd the last few days and especially today the amount of players playing. Several times at least a page of players or a page and a half. The other times half a page. Then again other times just 3 or 4 games. The oddest part its mostly people between 1-25 on average.
Peak players went from 39 to 46. Barely anything considering 600k people viewed it but that's still alright. As much player as there were in last August. It's nice that this game got an unnoticeable yet existing attention, let's hope they don't leave. Looking at the reviews they made and their total played time, seems like to many people this game is just a nostalgic little time killer. Whether you want to take this as a bad thing or not, that's up to you. I do.
Yeah, this game shouldn't be an alternate game for people. The point is they are supposed to love it. However, at least they're playing. It could just be a brief New Year's miracle, but at least it happened.
Funny, that Reddit post is why I bought the game. Didn't know there was a steam version of SSL before that, but I'm extremely happy that I found my new favorite game!
