I also learned that cloaca means sewer in spanish.. Although I prefer the original meaning.

 

cloaca means sewers in italian and spanish, just saying.

Since many languages (like Italian or Spanish) descend from Latin, then it has the same meaning when used in those languages (eventhough it's a weird word, none would ever use it, at least in Italian). Since many words related to biology descend from Latin, it became also a word for describing the terminal chamber of the gastrointestinal system of birds.
