I've wondered this for a while now, why do so few people play in high wind?? I cant tell you how many times high level prestige players (often times with full armor and tanks enhancements) will quit when they see the game they entered is a high wind game. Or they will complain during that they are missing because of wind... Playing in High wind is great... A) you get extra XP from it (yea its only 9xp per game.. but it adds up imagine playing 100 games (an extra 900 just from that). Plus it adds challenge to the game. you have to compensate for wind... and be more selective with your shots... a megadigger in 15 wind wont be as effective as a heavy shot...and it could potentially backfire... it takes more skill to play in that kind of game Id like to know how many people play with wind in their games
I believe it's cause high wind messes up more shots than it helps. I see more people joining low wind matches than other wind settings cause it helps weps like Flying V do max damage without mssing up wind sensitive shots like Mega-Digger and Mega-Builder. Personally, I'm fine with any game settings, except for team shot. Even in games where we just act like idiots, it has to be either all shot or indiv shot for me. That's just me though, idk about other people.
The only reason to play in high wind is to weed out ill-knowledge players, because the miniscule XP is not worth it and if that's the reason people play in it instead of gaining experience, they're missing the entire point of wind to begin with. I tack on high wind in my game sometimes when me and my buddies are playing newer players so we can watch them fail their shots and/or rage quit. It's pretty amusing, if I'm honest with you. If I hold a tournament, I may have all matches include medium wind. Make sure the player really earns their win... and their money.
back then in ssl1 i was playing it with high wind all the time, noobs would stay away from windy maps but in ssl2 i think only eager noobs are hosting such rooms!! I don't event want to play in hi wind.
What do you mean missing the point?? "and playing with it instead of gaining exp." I play 300 hp DM games. (the most efficient way of gaining XP) adding high wind to those games...if you know how to compensate your shots... in no way brings in diminished returns as far as XP goes.. if ANYTHING it allows players used to wind to on average gain more xp as (I and others) are at an advantage against those that cant deal with wind; resulting in more "wins" and the 15xp "win" bonus
I like playing high wind games. Although something that really grind my gears is when my opponent gets really close to me to fire cuz they cant cope shooting from where they are. Get off my jock and stay off it damn! Idont want ur hugs either
You misread my post. What I said was that people that play in wind for the XP instead of the experience are missing the point of it. The purpose of wind is to add an extra layer of challenge to the game, forcing you to use your brain to calculate locations and distance, and you will be rewarded - or punished - based on how well you do. The people that play just for a few more XP are just missing the point.
I agree. I sometimes play in wind, but only when I feel like a challenge. When I play for the sake of playing or for XP, I don't like wind for three reasons. First, the extra XP bonus is nowhere near what you lose from missing shots or not being able to use certain weapons to their maximum potential, and your xp per minute drops a lot. Second, other people missing shots also makes the game take longer, which lowers your xp per minute. Third, I don't enjoy getting shot accidentally by teammates because they can't shoot well in wind. Again, I don't mind it as a challenge, and I agree that its very good for tournament-style play. But I'd only want to play with good players who can aim well also.
I don't do it because I can't aim for shit in windy games. And yes, I've read the guides about how to aim in windgames, but to no use since I am plain stupid. Adding/Subtracting a few angles depending on how much wind there is isn't my thing.. Ask anyone who tried to help me with arcing (without wind), how long it took for me to understand simple things. Usually I have no problem with math, but math in english from people who maybe aren't the best at the language (because they native language isn't english) is a lot more difficult. I could close my eyes during a normal game and have the same outcome from a game with high wind... ^^
Well, seeing how I've played 3d turn based games similar to this. (ex. Worms) where you can't turn the wind off, it gets real easy when you are playing on a 2d setting. If you are a total flat out noob, just download this app called "Paper toss" play a little bit, and you know how wind works.
The only thing that can make the game more challenging is to include low, heavy gravity settings. That would really mess with peoples heads.
I can play in any wind but I do not like getting 2 xp from a digger that would have got me 10 XP. By the end of the game, you have shot twice as many times to kill the enemy which took twice as long to gain the XP, the 9 XP bonus just isn't worth the extra time wasted on weapons that does not work in wind. I'd rather get full damage and full XP on my strong weapons than 9 XP on the end. I do play in wind sometimes for fun or just to mess around but when I'm going for XP, wind isn't going to be there.
